Work is more than a paycheck or a list of tasks to complete. Scripture teaches that our vocation can be part of our service to God. Colossians reminds us that whatever we do should be done heartily, “as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
In this message, Pastor Mix looks to the wisdom of Solomon and Scripture to examine six biblical principles for successful work:
- Work Enthusiastically — Give your best effort and approach your responsibilities as service to the Lord.
- Work with Integrity — Value a good name and godly character above personal gain.
- Work Skillfully — Continue learning, improving, and developing the abilities God has given you.
- Work Efficiently — Use your time wisely and approach your responsibilities strategically.
- Work Cooperatively — Recognize the value of teamwork and the abilities God has given others.
- Work Persistently — Remain faithful when results don't come immediately, trusting God with the outcome.
Whether at a job, serving in ministry, caring for a family, or carrying out everyday responsibilities, Christians have an opportunity to honor God through the way they work.
Solomon's example reminds us that our attitude toward work, the quality of our work, and our willingness to remain diligent all say something about our character—and ultimately about the God we serve.
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” — Colossians 3:23
