Acts 27:1–44 (KJV)

In Acts 27, the Apostle Paul finds himself aboard a ship caught in a violent storm. The winds are uncontrollable, the ship is breaking apart, and eventually all visible hope of survival disappears. Yet in the middle of the storm, Paul remains confident because his faith is anchored in something stronger than his circumstances: the promises of God.

“Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.” — Acts 27:25

In this message from The Unstoppable Church series, we discover several truths for facing the storms of life:

  • Prepare spiritually before the storm comes. Strengthen your life through God's Word, prayer, fellowship, worship, and faithful service before the crisis arrives.
  • Trust God when you cannot see what He is doing. The sailors could not see the sun, stars, or a way out—but they had not been abandoned. Circumstances may block our view of God, but God has not moved.
  • Believe God's Word over your circumstances. Paul did not place his confidence in the weather, the captain, his feelings, or what he could see. He simply declared, “I believe God.”
  • Stay anchored in Christ. Money, health, careers, governments, and people can change. Jesus Christ and the hope we have in Him provide an anchor that does not move.
  • Let your storm become your testimony. The people aboard the ship watched Paul pray, trust, give thanks, and remain faithful. Our response to difficulty can likewise become an opportunity for others to see Christ in us.

Acts 27 reminds us that faith does not mean the storm will immediately disappear. Sometimes God calms the storm, and sometimes He gives us peace while the storm continues.

God's presence is greater than the storm.
God's promise is greater than your problem.
God's purpose is greater than your pain.
God's peace is greater than your fear.

The ship was broken. The cargo was lost. The sailors were exhausted. The future was uncertain.

But God had spoken.

The storm did not cancel God's promise. The waves did not change God's Word. The shipwreck did not defeat God's purpose.

When you cannot control the storm, trust the God who controls the storm.

“I BELIEVE GOD.”
